B10 shortcut for driving mode and wing mirrors

I had a bit of a fiddle with the shortcut button on the left-hand side of the B10’s steering wheel, and in my view it’s more useful than it first appears.

From the settings menu you can go to ‘Driving’ and then to ‘Steering Wheel’, where the custom button can be assigned to both a single click and a double click. I find it handy for two main things:

  • bringing up a combined driving function without having to go via the display each time
  • folding in the wing mirrors with a double click when you get to narrow streets

The interesting thing is that, at least on mine, when I restart the car the acceleration mode seems to drift back towards Comfort, even if I’d previously set it to Standard or Sport. With the shortcut button I can set the combination I want in a few seconds — for instance Standard acceleration with strong regen — without going into the menus each time.

It’s not a revolution, but in day-to-day use it saves a fair few taps on the screen.
