Leapmotor depreciation and doubts over used car values

I’ve been asking myself a few questions about the future residual value of Leapmotors and, more generally, Chinese electric cars sold in Europe.

The point worrying me isn’t so much the purchase price, which is often competitive, but the possibility of faster depreciation compared with European brands. Among the suggested causes are poor brand awareness in the used car market, doubts about the future availability of spare parts, and the lack of a sufficiently long track record on long-term reliability.

The matter may also affect leasing and hire arrangements: if the residual value has been set too high, the vehicles could be worth less than expected at the end of the contract. However, no specific data is provided for individual Leapmotor models, so I would avoid concluding that the T03, C10 or B10 necessarily follow the same trend.

Personally, I’ll be keeping an eye on actual Italian used car prices, because at the moment they seem more useful than generic forecasts.
