V2L error block

I was (and perhaps still am) super enthusiastic about this car, so much so that I bought it practically before it was even in many dealerships’ showrooms, choosing the Design model, and I picked it up last Thursday, November 20th.

The car is beautiful in both its design and the materials used in relation to its cost; it has all the super useful and functional accessories.

Everything was perfect for 2 days. I even took a 500 km trip on the motorway for a family commitment, but suddenly on Sunday morning, as I was heading towards a charging station, disaster struck: the car locked up while moving in the middle of an intersection in the “unlock V2L adapter” state.

There was no way to get it to move, nor to unlock it in an emergency to move it from the intersection, causing endless traffic jams. I called for roadside assistance, but they wouldn’t arrive for at least 2 hours. The police arrived and at least tried to manage the traffic, while in the meantime, I tried everything to unlock the car, plugging in the supplied charging cables and pressing the button on the V2L cable unlock pad, but nothing changed. The police asked me to move the car somehow while waiting for the tow truck, but the car was stuck with the handbrake engaged, which couldn’t be released in any way, nor could it be put into neutral. I tried resetting the car’s software, but nothing changed. I tried a factory reset, and in both cases, the system restarted but always returned to the same state. I then tried disconnecting the service battery cable to turn it off completely, and after reconnecting it, it returned to the same state, but after 5 minutes, it unlocked itself, and I was able to move it from the intersection.

I tested it a bit to see if it would do this “trick” again, but everything worked correctly all day, and I drove an additional 50 km in stages without any problems. I recharged it and parked it to take it to the service centre the next day (as it was Sunday) to have this lock-up checked.

Unfortunately, on Monday morning, I turned it on and found it locked up again. I called assistance and the dealership, but they couldn’t help me or tell me how to restore the car, especially how to put it in neutral and release the handbrake so it could be moved and recovered by roadside assistance to be taken to the workshop.

According to ACI roadside assistance, all electric and/or automatic/electronic transmission cars have an emergency key or button on the system that puts it in neutral and releases the handbrake to allow it to be moved and towed in an emergency, but apparently, this car doesn’t have one. However, given what happened, it should be included to allow the car to be secured when exceptional events like this occur.

My car is currently at an authorised workshop awaiting examination and has been for a week now without the service battery connected.

Being locked up meant it had to be dragged multiple times to be towed, which is not good for the tyres, but especially for the suspension, wishbones, and wheel axles.

Hello, but when you say you couldn’t put it in neutral, is that just because the car wouldn’t start? The display, I mean… because obviously at the dealership they told me you can do it (put it in neutral) but someone has to be inside and be pushed…

For now, it seems the only possible solution to reset the error is to disconnect the 12V service battery, which requires a 10mm wrench.
There is no mention of a similar bug on any forums in China, so it appears to be affecting only European models for now.
@A.Alma could you post the link to the video where you disconnect the service battery?

It’s not because all electric cars have an electronic handbrake and the infotainment wasn’t responding at that moment. The service battery needed to be disconnected, and he didn’t know that initially.
In all other cases, the procedure to follow for a manual push is:

Someone needs to be inside who:

  1. Turns the vehicle on

  2. Holds down the brake

  3. Selects N

  4. Deactivates the parking brake (EPB)

Only then can other people push the car.

I wonder if the “Car Wash” mode (which is in the scenarios) doesn’t allow you to leave the car in “N” and without the parking brake.

Yes, great, it works in car wash mode. Just one note, it works up to 5 km/h, so it’s fine when you’re pushing the car by hand, not when it needs to be towed.

Well done!! I’ll try it in a car park just to be safe, but “knowing how to do it” is already reassuring. Unfortunately, with the 208 I didn’t know how to do it and it wasn’t pleasant.

(I’ll give a cumulative answer for everyone)

Disconnecting the auxiliary battery is NOT the solution because in my case it didn’t work the second time, even though it was tried twice without success.

The issue of putting the car in neutral, of course, you can put it in neutral, but if you are using the V2L for the car, any maneuvers to switch to another mode are not permitted because the only thing you can do is disconnect the V2L, but since nothing is connected, it’s not possible.

Hello everyone, I just bought it too (in the port of Livorno so it should arrive shortly..) and this bug is really a major system error (as the experts say). Question: has the parent company been contacted? did they reply? if so, what did they reply?

I would suggest highlighting (at the top, somewhere) the best solution to date, immediately identifiable (naturally, if there is one). With the hope that it can be resolved soon.

Honestly, I can’t imagine the inconvenience for @A.Alma, congratulations on your composure.

For now, the best temporary solution to the V2L lock is to disconnect the service battery, but as also reported, this workaround doesn’t always work. I think we will have to wait for an update, hoping it’s not a hardware sensor problem.

We hope that the service center you contacted will report this to Leapmotor with some priority.

I believe “car wash mode” is sufficient when you need to be towed with a hook.

It was disconnected for me for 8 days and nothing changed.

Unfortunately, these are things said just to say something, as happens with all new things, those who should disseminate information just throw it out randomly…

UPDATE:

  • The V2L error does not stop the vehicle while it is moving. But if you stop, it will not restart.
  • The only workaround that has always worked is to disconnect the connector located in the trunk. You can find how to disconnect it in the video.

Please be aware, this is extremely important. If you encounter this problem and do not have the physical key, as one of the workarounds is to disconnect the service battery for 10 minutes, please be careful… never EVER close the bonnet with the battery disconnected…
